Miscellaneous Information
Edward was born on 21 August 1920 at Steelman, Saskatchewan. His father, a merchant was born in Austria and his mother, who was deceased by the time of Edward's enlistment, was born in Russia. He had a brother John and a second brother Godfrey who was a Sergeant in the Canadian Army overseas. He also had a sister Clara as well as a half sister Colombe. He attended Roseleigh School in Steelman, Saskatchewan between 1925 and 1932, then Dominion Business College, Winnipeg in 1938 where he studied shorthand /typing and accounts. He also undertook home study in Saskatchewan between 1933-1936. Between 1932-1938 Edward worked for his father in his grocery store. Edward also worked at Imperial Grocery as a clerk and assistant between 1937-1941 and then at Loblaw Groceterias Ltd. as a Tabulating clerk at Fleet and Bathurst, Toronto from 1941-1942. The sports he enjoyed were baseball, basketball and roller skating and his hobby was writing. |
He enlisted on 26 February 1942. After training Edward was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944 arriving at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 15 March 1944 then proceeding to 2(0) AFU 4 April 1944, 83 OTU 29 July 1944 and 12 Squadron on 3 October 1944. Sadly Edward was to lose his life on 14 January 1945. |
