Miscellaneous Information
Born on the 6 December 1921 in Sarnia, Lambton County, Ontario. His father was born in Mooretown and worked as a boiler maker at Imperial Oil, Sarnia, and his mother was born in Port Franks. James was one of ten children having six sisters and three brothers. He went to Wellington Street School 1927-1935 followed by Sarnia Collegiate Institute Technical School, Sarnia between 1936-1940/41. He took a General Technical Course which specialised in Drafting. James also spent five years with a Cadet Corps at Sarnia Tech. Between 1935 and 1941 he worked as a Doorman at the Imperial Theatre, Sarnia. |
Enlisting on the 28 January 1941, James, after initial training, embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 9 December 1941. He arrived at 3 PRC on 19 December 1941, 7 AGS 20 February 1942, 19 OTU 16 April 1942 and 106 Squadron 4 June 1942. Quinn Drive, Sarnia is named in his honour. |
James took part in hockey, tennis, basketball, swimming, hunting and sport shooting and his hobbies were, model building (aeroplanes, boats etc), woodwork, drafting and general mechanics. |
