Peter was born on 5 June 1921 at Sydney, Nova Scotia. His parents were both born in Galicia (now in Russia) and his father was a Steel worker. He had sisters Mary and Anne and brothers Stephen and Michael. Another brother, John had died in 1941. Peter went to Holy Redeemer Junior high School 1927-1938 where he attained grades 6-9, followed by Sydney Academy 1938-1940 (Grade 10 Matric). His sport interests were swimming, track and baseball- his particular passion being football where he was a member of the local Championship team of 1938-39 at the Holy Redeemer school . His hobbies were sketching, drawing, and an interest in radio and electrics. Peter served in the Merchant Navy between September and December 1940 and then worked at the Dominion Steel Coal Co. between January and July 1941, a Wire Drawing Steel Mill. He enlisted shortly after on 31 July 1941. |
He embarked for the U.K. on 16 May 1942, arriving at 3PRC on 29 May, he then went on to 3 AGS 29 June 1942, 19 OTU 11 August 1942, 1660 CU 5 January 1943, 1654 CU 9 February 1943 and 44 Squadron on 6 March 1943. |

Reason for Loss | Shot down by Lt. Peter Ehrhardtof 5./NJG 5, flying a Schräge Musik-equipped Bf 110 G-4 from Parchim airfield. Crashed in Kölpiensee lake at Peenemünde, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. This was the first time Schräge Musik had been used. |
