Miscellaneous Information
Cyril was born on 2 September 1917 at Toronto to Jewish parents. His father, a Merchant, was born in England and his mother, who was deceased by the time of Cyril's enlistment, was born in London, England. He had one brother, Bernard. He attended Regal Road Public School, 1922-1929 followed by Oakwood Collegiate Institute 1929-1933 - both in Toronto. The sports he played were rugby and baseball and he was a member of the Toronto Gun Club, Kirkland Lake. Cyril worked as a Brokerage Clerk for three years at Colling and Colling in Toronto. He spent 2 years in the Cadet Corps. Before enlistment, Cyril had run a restaurant business at Kirkland Lake. |
Cyril enlisted on 10 October 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K. He arrived from Canada at 3PRC on 28 June 1941 and then continued to 10 OTU on 7 July 1941. Sadly Cyril was killed in a training flying accident just three weeks after his arrival at 10 OTU, on 28 July 1941 when his aircraft crashed at Abingdon, Berks, England. |
