Miscellaneous Information
Despite a very thorough search of the area in which these two servicemen left the aircraft, no trace of them was ever found |
This was one of the most famous Lancasters, named 'Mickey the Moocher', it clocked up more than 120 ops. Survived the war only to be unceremoniously scrapped. BBMF Lancaster PA474 featured its distinctive livery for several seasons |
The squadron ORBs do not state that the aircraft was struck by lightning but rather that the pilot was blinded by a lightning flash. It is not clear whether it was genuinely struck by lightning or whether this is hyperbole. |
