Edmund was born on 13 November 1921 at Arborg, Manitoba. His father was born in Poland and had worked as a Baker and his mother was born in Austria. He had brothers Stanley and Marian and sisters Nellie and Pauline. His brother, H/42388 Marion Podborochinski, was born 25 April 1925. He was a Private with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and was killed on 2 October 1944. Edmund enlisted 15 days after his brother and there is also a lake named after them both. Edmund went to Ardal school, Manitoba, 1929-1936 and again in 1936-1939. Edmund’s hobby was model building and for sport he took part in hockey, baseball, swimming, football and hunting. He carried out Bush work at Arborg, 1939-1940 and then was a Baker at Christie and Brown Co. 1941-1942. |
After enlisting on 26 August 1942 he was then posted to the U.K. at the end of his training. He embarked from Halifax on 23 June 1943, arriving at 3 PRC on 2 July 1943 and continued to 30 OTU on 9 July 1943, 1667 CU 11 August 1943 and then 12 Squadron on 12 October 1943. Edmund very sadly lost his life on 29 December 1943. |
