Miscellaneous Information
Louis was born at the village of Frank, Alberta on 16 October 1914. His father had been born in Bohemia but sadly lost his life in the mines in 1921 and his widowed mother re-married a Frank Roboch in 1922 and had six more children. He attended Frank Public school, 1921-1929 and Blairmore High School 1930-1934 (Grade 12). He also went to the Chicago Institute of Diesel Engineering followed by a year of shop training. The sports he enjoyed were hockey, baseball and softball and his hobby was diesel engineering. He also had one full blood brother, Anthony Poch. He held various jobs including a butcher 1935-1936, trucking, 1936-1938 and finally as a miner in the West Canadian collieries. |
Louis enlisted on 8 January 1941 and was posted to the U.K. after training. He embarked from Canada during December 1941. He then went through 3 PRC and on to 1 AOS 16 January 1942, 61 Squadron 10 June 1942, 61 Conversion Flight 10 August 1942, 61 Squadron 15 August 1942. Sadly Louis lost his life on 10 September 1942. |
