Reason for Loss | One of 3 Halifaxes destroyed when a Lancaster of 207 Sqn crashed into them after swinging across the airfield during take-off for an operation on Homberg. This Halifax had earlier been diverted to Spilsby following an operation to Koln. Seeing the liklihood of the Halifax being damaged, P/O Platt ran to his machine in an effort to get it out of harm's way but, running on just one engine in haste, the aircraft swung and caught fire, killing P/O Platt. |
