Miscellaneous Information
Raymond was born at Kelowna, British Columbia on 14 January 1922. His father was a jeweller and was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and his mother was born in London, England. He had an older brother Dexter Leonard who was a radio mechanic in the RCAF overseas. The schools he attended were Kelowna Elementary and Junior High 1928-1937. Also Kelowna High 1937-1940. Raymond also took a correspondence and practical course with Brisbane Aviation Co. of Vancouver, to learn aircraft construction. 1939-1940. For sport he enjoyed badminton, swimming and skiing and his hobby was making model aircraft. He worked for Boeing Aircraft of Canada (Vancouver) in the rework department of production engineering and for Fleet Aircraft Ltd. at Fort Erie, Ontario as an Expeditor in the Production Office 1941-1942. |
On 14 February 1942 Raymond enlisted. after training he embarked from New York on 3 August 1943 and then went through 3PRC on 12 August 1943, 14 (P) AFU 31 August 1943, 14 OTU 28 December 1943, 1660 CU 23 April 1944 and 619 Squadron on 30 June 1944. Raymond sadly lost his life on 27 September 1944 |
