Miscellaneous Information
Franklin was born on 22 April 1924 at Lindsay, Ontario. His father, who was deceased by the time of Franklin's enlistment, was born in London, England and his mother was born in Port Perry, Ontario. He was one of seven children, four sons and three daughters. Sadly all three of his sisters had died unmarried. His three brothers all in service were LAC Bruce Peppiatt who was stationed in Guelph, Bmdr. Earle Peppiatt was in the artillery in England and Sgm. Harry Peppiatt was in Italy. Franklin went to John Fisher School 1937-1939 and then the Northern Vocational 1939-1940 (Toronto). His sport Interests were hockey, baseball and rugby and his hobby was stamp collecting. He was working as a shipper for the Robert Crean Company in 1940 and then as an Office Clerk at Gooderham & Worts Ltd 1940-1942, one of the largest distillers of alcoholic beverages. |
Franklin enlisted on 14 August 1942 and after his training, embarked for the U.K. from Halifax on 23 June 1943. After arrival at 3PRC on 2 July 1943 he went on to 28 OTU 9 July 1943, 1667 CU 9 August 1943 and 12 Squadron on 2 October 1943. He was only nineteen years old when he lost his life on 30 March 1944. |
