Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 29 April 1920 at Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. His father was born at Nottingham, Indiana and was an Oil Field worker and his mother was born at Springfield, USA. Both parents were deceased by the time of William's enlistment but he had an uncle, Earle William Penn of Hobbs, New Mexico, who was also an oil field worker. He had no siblings. The schools he attended were at Mentone, Texas 1927-1936 (public), continuing in 1936-1938. The sports he took part in were baseball, basketball and football and his hobbies included hunting, fishing and motor boat racing. He had a mixture of jobs including unit operator, tractor operator, truck driver and roughnecking. |
William enlisted on 2 October 1941, while the Unoted States was still neutral (without taking an oath). He is next found at 3 PRC 29 March 1942, 7 AGS 30 May 1942, 16 OTU 23 June 1942, 9 Conversion Flt. 16 September 1942, and 9 Squadron 17 October 1942. Sadly William then lost his life on 14 December 1942. |
