Stewart was born on 10 December 1914 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Scotland and was a retired veteran of World War One, his mother was born in Sweden. His enlistment papers metion a brother but no name is given. The schools he attended were Saskatoon P.S. Hamilton and Albert Public school 1922-1931, Saskatoon Technical Collegiate Institute 1931-1934 and also Saskatoon Tech, night school 1931-32. He was a Service Station attendant between 1935-1938: He was then an engineer's assistant for six months at Western Hotel and then an attendant and driver for the Ambulance Service, Saskatoon, 1938-1939. His sport interests were softball, basketball. Tennis, hockey and Canadian rugby and hobbies were mechanics, radio and woodworking. |
He enlisted on 10 August 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 7 October 1941 arriving at 3PRC on 19 October before going on to 1.SS 11 November 1941, 2 AGS 26 January 1942, 10 OTU 3 March 1942. Sadly two months later Stewart was to lose his life. |
