Miscellaneous Information
| Stephen was born on 17 January 1923 at West Selkirk, Manitoba. His father, a labourer, was born in Ukraine. Both parents died in 1927. He had brothers John and Bill and sisters Nellie, Jennie and Sophia. His next of kin shown as his married sister Nellie (Hoffman). Stephen attended Victoria and Central schools in Selkirk, 1929-1937 followed by Devonshire College, Selkirk 1937-1939. He also went to Miami High School 1941- 1942 (grade 11). His sport interest was skating and softball and he was interested in the building of radio sets. Stephen was engaged to a young lady named Edith Mary Louisa Levoir, who lived in England at Kenton, Middlesex, and his will was made out in her favour. He had no occupation as he was still a student. |
| On 10 December 1942 Stephen enlisted and after training embarked from Canada for the U.K. He arrived at 3PRC on 19 April 1944, 8 (0) AFU 4 July, 18 OTU 15 August 1944, 71 Base 11 November 1944 and 166 Squadron on 28 February 1945. Sadly Stephen was to lose his life the following month on 24 March 1945. |
