Miscellaneous Information
Richard was born at Prince Rupert, British Colombia on 10 June 1922. His father was a Stores Commissioner in the Sleeping Dining Car Dept. for C.N.R. and he was born in Sydney, Australia. His mother(who was deceased by the time of Richard's enlistment) was born in Kent, England. He had a brother William Clyde and two sisters, Vera and Phyllis. The schools he attended were Wellington, Mulrey. 1929-1937 followed by Gordon Bell. 1937-1940. The sports he played were baseball and rugby. Richard worked as a Pantry Man for CNR in the Sleeping Dining Cars during 1940, then as a cook for 14 EFTS Portage for 8 months, 1940/1941, then as a Timekeeper at Defence Industries Ltd (Cordite Plant) in Transcona, Manitoba. |
He enlisted on 12 October 1942 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 16 June 1943, arriving at 3PRC on 24 a June. He then continued to 29 OTU 6 July 1943, 1660 CU 13 August 1943, and 619 Squadron 23 September 1943. Sadly, Richard then lost his life on 16 February 1944. |
