Miscellaneous Information
Francis was born on 19 April 1923 at Bawlf, Alberta. His father was a farmer born in Norway and his mother born in Russia. He had a brother Ralph and younger sister Lorraine. The sports he enjoyed were baseball, softball and skating his hobby was making model aeroplanes. He had always worked on his father’s farm at Bawlf before enlisting and this he did on 20 October 1942. |
After training Francis was posted to the U.K. and he embarked from New York on 3 August 1943, arriving at 3 PRC on 12 August. He was then at 26 OTU on 24 August 1943, 1678 CU 5 November 1943, 1653 CU 14 December 1943, 31 Base 1 January 1944 and then at 166 Squadron on 21 March 1944. Sadly Francis was then to lose his life on 15 July 1944. |
