Miscellaneous Information
Arthur was born in LIverpool, England on 5 December 1920. Both parents were born in England and his father worked as a waiter. He had three siblings: two brothers, Eric and Leonard and a sister Rita. Arthur attended the Luke Callaghan School in Montreal, 1927-1935 and then to D’Arcy McGee High, Montreal 1935-1936. He enjoyed many sports including football, baseball, skiing and lacrosse. Between 1936-1939 he worked as an accountant for Robert Howard & Co., Montreal and then as a Tabulator machine operator from 1939 onwards at Canadian Car & Foundry. He then enlisted on 11 June 1942. |
After completing his training, Arthur embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 26 August 1943 and he arrived at 3PRC on 2 September 1943. From there he went to 5 AOS. 19 October 1943, 51 Base 15 March 1944 and 61 Squadron 16 June 1944. On 13 August 1944 Arthur very sadly lost his life. |
