Reason for Loss | Met with severe anti-aircraft fire after bombing the target. One burst put the aircraft into a spin down from 7500' to 3000' during which the pilot gave the order to bale out. Only the navigator obliged before the aircraft was righted. The air gunner assumed the role of navigator for the remainder of the journey and the aircraft made a safe return to base. Sgt Neville's body was never found. |
