Miscellaneous Information
Charles was born on 21 November 1918 in Sarnia, Ontario. His father was born in Grimsby, Ontario and worked as a Landscape Gardener, his mother born in London, England. Charles had four sisters, Lilian, Winifred, Alice and Marian. He went to Sarnia Public School 1921-1932, and Sarnia Collegiate and Technical School where he spent another three years 1932-1935 studying electrics, woodwork etc. Although Charles took part in hockey and football, he preferred gymnastics. Charles worked for several companies employed in the roofing and building trades from 1935-1941 and also carried out electrical work for Imperial Electrics. |
He enlisted at North Bay on 23 June 1941 and embarked from Canada fo the U.K.on 5 July 1942. Arriving at 3 PRC on 19 July, he then went to 7 AGS 18 August 1942, 14 OTU 8 September 1942, 1660 CU 9 February 1943, and finally 83 Squadron on 3 April 1943. He lost his life two months later. |
