Miscellaneous Information
Thomas was born on 10 January 1924 at Ocean Falls, British Columbia. His father, a Tinsmith, was born at St. John’s, Newfoundland and his mother was born at Carberry, Manitoba. He had two younger brothers, Alexander and Charles as well as sisters Margaret, Bessie and Florence. He went to Ocean Falls school 1929-1938 followed by the High School in 1938-1942. His sport interests were swimming, softball, basketball and soccer and he enjoyed track&field. His hobby was reading and aviation. Thomas worked at Pacific Mills, Ocean Falls carrying out general duties in the summers of 1937-1942. |
On 14 September 1942, he enlisted and after training was posted to the U.K. He then embarked from Halifax on 26 August 1943 and arrived at 3 PRC on 2 September. From there he went to 14 OTU 21 September 1943, 1661 CU 31 October 1943, 207 Sqn 6 January 1944, 51 Base 17 January 1944 and 49 Squadron on 15 April 1944. This young man, only just 20 years old, lost his life on 27 April 1944. |
