Miscellaneous Information
Guy was born on 17 September 1915. He lived in the Pleasant Corner area at Vankleek Hill, Ontario where his father was a well respected local farmer. His mother was born at Chute a Blondeau, Ontario. He had a sister Joan and brothers, Colin, Ray, Thomas , Evan Patrick, and Emmett Joseph. Brother Ray was away at Army Camp Borden. Guy attended the Public School at Pleasant Corner, 1921-1928 (High School Entrance) followed by Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute 1930-1933 (Academic Course). He spent two years at home before going to Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute. Between 1933 -1936 he was farming at home and then became a diamond driller 1936-1937 and then at Sullivan Mines 1937-1941 where he was a drill operator. He enjoyed most indoor and outdoor sports. |
Guy enlisted on 13 August 1940 in North Bay and after training was sent to the U.K. arriving at 3 PRC on 29 March 1942. He was at 16 OTU on 23 June 1942 and 12 Squadron on 16 September 1942. Guy completed his first tour of duty with this Squadron and instead of having a break opted to continue into a second tour. This he undertook at 103 Squadron and it was from there that he was to lose his life, tragically on the final day of his second tour, 12 June 1943. This devastated family were to eventually lose three of their sons but a fourth, Colin, who was also in service was sent home to be with his family. |
