Miscellaneous Information
Born 21 February 1918 in Townsville, Queensland. He was a shipping clerk for seven years prior to enlisting and also served in the 51st Battalion as a Private. He embarked for training in Canada on 23 January 1941 and passed through 3 Wireless School, 2 BAGS Mossbank and the to Y depot Halifax for posting to UK on 29 August 1941. On arrival at 3 PRC, he was posted to 1 Signals School Cranwell, 25 OTU and then 49 Squadron on 26 April 1942. Posted to 467 Squadron on its formation. |
After the war his family were sent some photographs of the burial service by a German soldier who took part in the ceremony. His name was Toni Clemens. |
Initially buried in Boeblingen cemetery, Switzerland. The Marborough Chronicle, Mant's local newspaper back home, reported that the Swiss Consul attended the funeral. |

Reason for Loss | The aircraft was hit by Flak in the starboard wing shortly after dropping its bombs, setting fire to its petrol tanks. The Captain ordered the crew to abandon at 10,000 feet and all but two obliged. The aircraft crashed near the target area, 2 km W of Stuttgart close to Boelingen, where the two airmen who perished were initially buried. |
