Miscellaneous Information
Christian was born born 9 December 1919 at Montreal, Quebec. Both parents were born in England, his father, a first aid instructor, in Liverpool and his mother in Sunderland. They lived Pointe-aux-Trembles, Montreal, Quebec. He had four brothers, Cory, Linden, Lorne and Raymond, all of whom joined the Canadian army and a young sister Shirley, who died in 1927. Christian was a member of the East Montreal Literary and Dramatic Society. The schools he attended were Montreal East Public 1926-1933, Montreal High 1933-1935 (Arts), and Montreal Central Business course 1938. He also took a St. John’s Ambulance course during 1938. His sport interests were hockey, swimming and baseball. His hobbies included reading and driving and working on cars. Christian worked as a Seaman with McCall Frontenac Oil, 1935-1935 and then returned to school. He then worked as a Messenger for C.P.R. 1936-1938 and as a laboratory assistant for Shell Oil Ltd as a summer job, during 1938. He finished by working in the RCAF equipment department as a storeskeeper from 1939 until enlistment . |
He enlisted on 16 May 1941 and after initial training embarked from Canada on 25 April 1942 and arrived in the U.K. at 3PRC on 9 May 1942. He was then at 10 (0)AFU 24 July 1942, 14 OTU 22 September 1942, 1660 CU 9 February 1943 and 83 Squadron on 3 April 1943. Christian sadly lost his life on 12 June 1943. |
