Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off from Bottesford at 1757 hrs detailed to attack targets in Wilhelmshaven. Shot down by a night-fighter flown by Oblt. Paul Gildner of 1./NJG1 at 2105 hrs over the sea 20 km North of Vlieland. Gildner had three claims over the sea this night, 2 were confirmed, the third not seen could not be confirmed. Gildner was killed 5 nights later returning from a patrol, his BF110-G4 suffered an engine fire and crashed at Gilze-Rijen. |
