Miscellaneous Information
Born 29 September 1915, Belfast. The family lived at Agra Street, Ormeau, Belfast. His parents married on 31 March 1910 and in 1911 lived with Henry's widowed mother, Isabel. Henry senior was then a gardener at Purdsburn Mental Hospital, when Henry Junior was born, he was a Fireman at Chichester Road Fire Station, Belfast. |
This was the crew's tenth operation and ED703's second. All were buried with full military honours in Fürstenfeldbruck Cemetery on 13 March and the German authorities provided the photograph of the ceremony via the International Red Cross for the benefit of the crew's families. They were re-interred after the war in Durnbach. |
His nephew, Fred McCullough, is an accomplished artist from Australia and has created a series of works collectively known as 'Art and Soul' which are an homage to his uncle including his love of motorcycles as well as his time in Bomber Command. There are ten paintings in all- one for each of the crew's operations. Some contain excerpts from his logbook, even including the use of red ink to mark night ops, others include aircraft serial numbers and still others represent the targets. The originals of these paintings now hang in the hangar at East Kirkby. |
