Miscellaneous Information
Joseph was born on 12 October 1915 in Detroit, Michigan USA. Both parents were born in Lublin, Poland and his father, who was deceased by the time of Joseph's enlistment, had worked as a steam power operator. He had a brother Anthony and two sisters Lilian and Jean. The schools he attended were St. Andrew’s Parochial School 1923-1927 (primary), Munger Intermediate, Michigan 1927-1929, (Technical ) and Cass Technical High, 1929-1935 (aeronautics). Joseph also spent time during 1940 at the National Airport Ground school studying meteorology and navigation. His sporting interests were tennis, football, golf, swimming , bowling etc, but his main love was for flying. He had also been a Boy Scout. During 1936 Joseph worked as a car mechanic apprentice at Ford Motor Company. He then worked for them again 1936-1941 at River Rouce, Michigan as a test driver. |
He enlisted on 2 December 1940 but no movements after this are given in his records. Joseph was engaged to be married to Peggy Ham, a graduate nurse. |
