Miscellaneous Information
Jack was born at Shoal Lake , Manitoba on 7 March 1915. His father, who was deceased by the time of Jack's enlistment, was born at Fisher Mills, Ontario and was a well known Lawyer. His mother was also born in Ontario. He had eight brothers - Vernon, Mervyn, Gerald, Claude Sherwood, David, Orin and Roderic, and two sisters - Margaret and Ruth. He attended Shoal Lake Public School, 1921-1929 followed by Innisfail High School, 1929-1933. The sports he enjoyed were hockey, baseball, tennis, as well as occasional golf and bowling. His hobby was photography. Jack worked at Shoal Lake Creamery for one month in 1934 before going to Stovel Company in Winnipeg as an Artist and Mailer from 1934 onwards. He then enlisted on 16 October 1940. |
After training Jack embarked from Canada on 20 August 1941, arriving at 3PRC on 8 September 1941 and was then at 16 OTU on 23 September 1941 and 408 Squadron on 12 February 1942. Sadly Jack then lost his life at 408 Squadron on 9 May 1942. |
