His father was originally from Cyprus. |
After training at Harvard in July 1941, he was posted for multi-engine training in No. 23 SFTS operating with Oxfords from Heany Air Station, near Bulawayo. Graduating as a multi-engine pilot in August 1941, Lt. Markides was transferred to England in mid-August 1941. He was posted for operational training to No.25 OTU at RAF Finningley before being posted operationally to No 83 Squadron on 16 October 1941. He completed 16 operational sorties before his fateful trip to Essen. |
