Miscellaneous Information
Edward 'Teddy' Mann was the second of five children. Too young to join up when war started, he was an apprentice weaving overlooker and had a spell in the LDV and Air Cadets. He was accepted into the RAF and was selected for pilot training but after a bad landing was washed out and trained as a navigator. On 16th October 1944 at 7.50pm, after a period of intense operational training, their Wellington set off from Market Harborough. It had climbed to only 800 feet when one of the two engines failed causing it to crash with the loss of the entire crew. |
