| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Take off 0050 hrs. Entered a cumulus cloud and immediately began experiencing icing problems. The pilot attempted to change course but his Pitot tube was by then iced up. The crew were ordered to put on their parachutes immediaetly after which the port wing and nose of the aircraft suddenly dropped, leading to an uncontrollable dive which prevented the crew from abandoning the aircraft. Structural failure resulted from the very high speeds attained in the dive, leading to the aircraft inverting and throwing clear the pilot (who was not strapped in). He was the sole survivor. |
