Reason for Loss | On returh leg, came out of cloud over Peterborough with wheels down when the gyro toppled. Being unaware of this the pilot continued to follow the artificial horizon and consequently the aircraft performed a half roll. The aircraft then broke cloud at 2500' in a diving position. The pilot put the crew on notice to be ready to bail out but the WOp and both gunner left the aircraft. Patrick Maloney's parachute failed and he was killed in the descent. |
