Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 12 April 1908 at Edmonton, Alberta. His elderly father was a retired farmer, born in Stafford, England. His mother, who was deceased by the time of John's enlistment, was born in Kent, England. He attended Westward Ho! College 1917-1919, followed by Lamoureux Rural school, 1920-1922. He had at least three brothers Thomas M., F/Lt R.H. Lowe, J/15046, 426 Squadron (RAF Dishforth), and Lt. J. M. Lowe in the 5th Canadian Armoured Division. For leisure he enjoyed big game shooting. He could swim, drive a car and had a working knowledge of engines and machinery. John’s occupation had been running their home farm. |
He enlisted on 28 January 1941 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 23 October 1941, arriving at 3 PRC on 4 November. He was at 2 S.S (Signal school) on 9 December 1941, 10 OTU 3 March 1942 and 50 Squadron on 8 May 1942. Sadly John was to lose his life on 12 August 1942. |
