Miscellaneous Information
Mortimer was born on 8 January 1919 in Montreal. His father was a furrier, born at Bessarabia, and his mother was also born there (shown in his enlistment papers as Dame Bluma Goldner). He had three sisters: Clarice, Sylvia and Anita. He also had two brothers: Manuel (who was also enlisted in RCAF) and Seymour. The schools he attended were Roslyn Avenue, 1927-1929 and Argyle School 1929-1932. He also attended Montreal High, 1932-1937. In 1938 he was working for Shecter and Shecter in Shipping and as a stock-keeper. The sports he joined in were football, baseball and basketball. His documents list him as Canadian-Jewish. |
He enlisted on 22 June 1940. After training he was posted to the U.K. i It then shows him at 3 PRC on 24 May 1941, 25 OTU 7 April 1941, 16 OTU 8 April 1941, 44 Squadron 24 June 1941. Mortimer then sadly lost his life on 9 July 1941. |
