Miscellaneous Information
Hubert was born on 27 October 1920 at Mount Green, Merienthal, Saskatchewan. His father was born at St. Benedict, Minnesota, USA and his mother at Odessa, Russia. They lived at Poplar Point, Portage La Prairie. He had a brother Chris who was married with five children, and sisters- Rose, Helen, Margaret, Louise, Clara and Florence. He went to school at Greenmount, Saskatchewan, 1927-1934 and continued 1934-1937 where he obtained Grade 10 in all subjects. His sport interests were running, skating and high jump. He enjoyed making small items from wood and metal. Hubert was a farmer and worked for his father John Linn at Poplar Point 1930-1942 when he enlisted. |
After enlisting on 18 May 1942 followed by initial training, he embarked for the U.K. where he arrived at 3PRC on 22 December 1943, he then went to 3(0)AFU 25 January 1944, 30 OTU 29 February 1944, 11 Base 23 May 1944 and 101 Squadron 20 July 1944. Sadly, Hubert was to lose his life on 30 August 1944. |
