Miscellaneous Information
Alvin was born at Hornings Mills, Ontario on 3 December 1921. His father, a farmer, was born at Campbells Cross, Ontario and his mother at Hornings Mills. He had one married sister Adela and six brothers: Hilbert, Lewis, James, Harry, Emerson and Ivan. He attended Beech Valley Public School, 1928-1936 followed by Honeywood High 1936–1937 (8 months), grade 9, and then Western Vocational 1941 for two months to study sheet metal (aircraft). His sport interests were skating , bowling and riding. Alvin worked from home on the family farm between 1937-1941 when he was no longer needed, so he spent some time during 1941, working in the stock room at Farr’s garage. He then worked in the Stock Room at Trans Canada Airlines from June 1941 until enlisting on 10 August 1942. |
After enlisting and initial training, Alvin was posted to the U.K. and embarked for England on 26 January 1943. He arrived at 3 PRC on 5 February 1943, 7 AGS 3 March 1943 and then 22 OTU 23 March 1943. Sadly, the following month Alvin lost his life when he died in an air accident on 19 April 1943. |
