Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 12 September 1920 at Redclff, Alberta. Both parents were born in Ireland and his father was disabled at the time of John's enlistment. He has a brother Joseph and a sister Margaret. His brother Joseph was a Private in the Canadian army overseas. The schools attended were St. Angeles, between 1926-1934, a Public school in Calgary, and then St Mary’s Boys High school 1934-1935. The sports he enjoyed were bowling, golf, skating and baseball, John was a baker and he worked at Bryce Bakery, Calgary from 1935 onwards. |
On 6 May 1942 John enlisted and after his training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943 and arrived at 3 PRC on 10 November before continuing to 5 AOS. 4 December 1943, 6 (0)AFU 4January 1944 then to P.F.N.T. 22 February 1944. He then went from N.T.U. to 83 Squadron on 7 April 1944. Sadly John then lost his life on 14 August 1944. |
John was awarded a Path Finders badge on 17 October 1944. |
