Miscellaneous Information
Joseph was born on 25 May 1924 at Moncton, New Brunswick. His father was born at Sunny Brae , New Brunswick and worked as a C.N.R. mechanic and his mother was born at Moncton. (His parents separated when he was five years old). He had a brother Frank and sisters Rita and Irene. He attended Smythe Street School 1930-1938 (Grade 8) and Fredericton High 1938- 1941 (grade 11) Joseph spent three years in the Cadet Corps. whilst at Fredericton High. His sport interests were baseball, basketball, hockey, and swimming. He worked for J.Clark & Sons at Fredericton as a Stock Clerk. 1941-1942 and then enlisted on 1 December 1942. |
Joseph embarked from Halifax on 10 April 1944 after his initial training and arrived in the U.K. at 3(RCAF)PRC on 19 April 1944. He went on to 83 OTU 23 May 1944, 11 Base 10 August 1944, and 166 Sqn 16 October 1944. Joseph sadly lost his life the following month on 16 November. In his Will, Joseph left everything to his aunt Mrs.Susan Burnham and it would appear that she looked after him, or at least looked out for him, after his parents separated. |
