Miscellaneous Information
Paul was born on 8 August 1916 at Mundare, Alberta, the son of Steve Korbyl of Galicia , Austria, a farmer and Maria Korbyl also of Galicia, who was deceased by the time of Paul's enlistment. He had a sister Telley Opina and brothers Frank, Peter and Joe. He attended Svit school 1923-1932 and Kalusz 1932-1934 before completing his studies at Edmonton Separate School (High) 1934-1936. His sport interests were both baseball and softball. Apart from a short spell at the end of 1939 when Paul worked as a clerk at Egremont Grocetaria in Alberta, he worked for his father and brother in farming between 1936 and 1942. |
Paul then enlisted on 9 April 1942 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 27 May 1943, arriving at 3 PRC on 5 June then went on to 9(0)AFU on 22 June 1943, 81 OTU 20 July 1943, 1662 CU 17 October and then 626 Squadron on 11 February 1944. Sadly, Paul was to lose his life on 25 April 1944. |
