Miscellaneous Information
Elmer was born at Lacombe, Alberta on 23 August 1923. His father was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin, USA and was a farmer and his mother in Mitchell, Ontario. He had four brothers: John Clinton, Clarence Simeon, George Wilbur and Miles Arthur. There were also two sisters. Margaret Zeller and Nettie May. The schools he attended were Rimbey, Alberta 1929-1938 followed by Enilda, also Alberta, 1938-1939. Elmer enjoyed hunting and photography. He worked for Mrs. G. King at Peace River, Alberta until enlisting on 6 June 1942. |
After training Elmer was posted to the U.K. and he embarked from New York on 3 August 1943 arriving at 3PRC on 12 August. He then went to 17 OTU on 24 August 1843, 1668 CU on 26 October 1943, 44 Squadron on 27 December 1943. Then after bouts of sick leave he was back at 44 Squadron on 6 June 1944. Sadly Elmer was to lose his life on a Mine laying operation on 16 July 1944 at the age of 20 years. |
