Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Cranbrook, B.C.on 17 September 1919. His father, who was a cook, was born at London, Ontario and died in Tucson, Arizona in 1928 and his mother was born in Iowa, USA. He had one brother Arthur Roy and a sister Hazel May. Another sister, Frances Joy had died in 1916. He went to Mountain View Grammar School, California 1934-1937 and then Mountain View High School, 1937-1939. John’s sport interests were baseball, football and tennis. He worked as a carpenter at Los Altos, California 1939-1941, also at Palo Alto 1941-1942 and at Schuckle & Co. Sunnyvale, California 1942. John was also a Teamster at U.S.Navy Moffett Field for two months before enlisting. |
On 30 November 1942 John enlisted and after training, embarked for the U.K. on 24 November 1943. He arrived at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 2 December 1943, 12 OTU 11 January 1944 and 619 Squadron on 23 May 1944. Sadly John was to lose his life on 26 July 1944. |
Despite living predominantly in the United States, he and his family were Canadian citizens. |
