Miscellaneous Information
Franciszek was born on 6 August 1920 at Montreal, Quebec. His father owned a Grocers shop and both parents were born in Poland (Galicia). he had three sisters, Helen, Julie and Anne, and a brother Edward. The schools he attended were Holy Cross between 1928-1932 followed by Catholic High 1932-1936 (Jnr. Matric), both in Montreal. His hobby was stamp collecting and he enjoyed several sports including hockey, softball, basketball, track and bicycling. His father owned a Grocery store and that is where he worked as both clerk and messenger between 1936-1940. He then enlisted on 31 October 1940. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 9 December 1941, arriving at 3 PRC on 19 December. He was at 2 AOS 3 January 1942, 16 OTU on 21 April 1942, 61 Sqn 11 July 1942, 61 CU 10 August 1942 and 61 Squadron on 22 August 1942. Sadly Franciszek lost his life the following week on 29 August 1942. |
