Miscellaneous Information
Harold was born on 20 August 1918 in Lytton, British Colombia. His father worked as a clerk in B.C. Electric Railway Company and was born in Waterbeach, England and his mother was born in Ballymoney, Ireland. They lived in Bellevue Drive, Vancouver. The schools he attended were: Ridgeway, Lord Robert’s and Queen Mary 1926- 1933 and also Kitsilano High where he spent a year as a cadet. Also University Hill, Vancouver College 1933-1938; all in Vancouver. Harold worked as a Second Steward on the Dominion Government patrol boat “C.G.S” ‘KITAMAT’, June 1939-September 1939. He was also a Service Station Attendant for M. Grant Mackenzie between September-December 1939. He enjoyed most sports including rugby, tennis, basketball and badminton and he spent three years in the Boy Scouts. |
Harold enlisted on 18 December 1940 and embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 8 January 1942. He arrived 3 PRC 21 January 1942, 16 OTU 7 April 1942, 13 OTU 19 May 1942, 16 OTU 20 July 1942 and 50 Squadron 9 November 1942. |
