Miscellaneous Information
Frederick was born on 15 January 1913 at Norwood, St.Boniface. Manitoba. His father, who was deceased at the time of Frederick's enlistment, was born in London, England, and his mother in Belfast, Ireland. He had one brother, Henry Lewis Hopkins. The school he attended was John M. King 1919-1929 and he also undertook a Commercial Course at Success Business College for nine months in 1929. He worked for Morgan Nicholson Ltd. 1929-1940 as an Insurance claims adjuster and similarly from 1940 onwards. His hobby was internal combustion engines and sports were golf, fishing and hunting. |
Frederick enlisted on 21 May 1942. After enlisting and initial training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 16 May 1943, arriving at 3PRC on 24 May 1943. He was then at 10 (O) AFU on 3 August 1943, then 82 OTU 31 August 1943, 31 Base 30 November 1943, 51 Base 13 March 1944 and 50 Squadron on 11 April 1944. Sadly Frederick was to lose his life on 8 July 1944. |
