Miscellaneous Information
George was born at Winnipeg, Manitoba on 26 July 1920. His father, who was deceased by the time of George's enlistment, was born in England and his mother in Winnipeg. He had a brother Paul Alexander Hooper and a half sister, Lenore Willimere Hill. He attended Cecil Rhodes school 1927-1937 then St. John’s 1937-1940 (Commercial Course as well as Machine, electrical and woodworking). He was a High School rugby star. The sports he took part in were rugby, Irish football, basketball and tennis. His hobbies were stamp collecting, drawing and building model aircraft. George worked part time as a clerk for the T. Eaton Company in Winnipeg. |
He enlisted on 29 November 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K.. He embarked from Canada on 18 September 1941 and arrived at 3 PRC on 28 September 1941. He was at 22 OTU on 28 October 1941 and 142 Squadron 7 May 1942. George sadly lost his life from 142 Squadron on 30 July 1942. |
