Reason for Loss | Crashed at Bentley Farm, Cadney. The aircraft had taken off from Moreton in Marsh , Gloucestershire. Eye witnesses in Brigg were able to recall many years later that the aircraft was in distress over Brigg and came in very low, just missing the railway station. It is possible it tried to avoid the farm and crashed into a tree. All five occupants were killed. Two of the crew, Sgt. Bomb Aimer Norman Sydney Devereux-Mack and Sgt. Air Gunner Arthur Victor McDonald Buckingham are buried side by side in Kirton in Lindsey Cemetery. Sgt. Devereux-Mack's mother died in 1960 and her ashes were laid with her son. Sgt. Buckingham's grave also includes a dedication to his father Albert Buckingham who died on 17 March 1944. He served with the Canadian Army but did not die in conflict. |
