Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on 12 October 1920. His father, a Doctor, was born in County Antrim, Ireland and his mother was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He had a brother Hugh James in the RCAF F/O J/36707 and another brother James Arthur. Also a sister Mary Rachel who was a nurse. He went to Onion Lake private school 1927-1938 and then to Lloydminster School. 1938-1941 (grade 11). His main sport interests were hockey, tennis and softball and his hobbies were motor mechanics and painting. After leaving school John worked for Mrs. Hugh Hill of Lloydminster as a Dairyman where he became the manager. |
John enlisted on 29 December 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 7 August 1942. He arrived at 3 PRC on 19 August 1942, 29 OTU on 13 October 1942, 1660 CU 23 February 1943 and 49 Squadron on 29 March 1943. He sadly lost his life on 28 January 1944. |
