Reason for Loss | Attacked from astern by a Ju88 at around 9:30pm. The rear gunner fired back and struck the attacker's engine and propeller. The night-fighter then attacked again and hit one of the inner fuel tanks, which caught fire. The rear turret also caught light and the gunner bailed out with serious burns. The aircraft, which was named 'The Vulture Strikes', crashed near Osterwieck. It was lost on its 101st operation. |
