Miscellaneous Information
Jack was born on 21 April 1924 at Saskatchewan. His father, a farmer, was born in Quebec and his mother was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. He had a sister Dolores Fay and a brother, Lloyd Arnold who died on 23 July 1944. The schools he attended were Milden Public School 1930-1938 (grade 8) and Milden again, 1938-1942 (grades 11-12). He had no official work as was still a student but did carry out some farm work, probably for his father. The sport he enjoyed were hockey and softball and he liked to construct model aircraft. |
Jack enlisted on 2 July 1942 and after initial training was posted to the U.K. He is shown at 30 OTU on 18 January 1944 followed by 11 Base on 11 April 1944. Sadly Jack was to lose his life on 21 July 1944 at the age of twenty. |
A book entitled "RAF Lancaster LL779 and the Lost Bracelet" by Ad Hermens is available (in English and Dutch) describing how the discovery of Jack Harvey's silver bracelet led to its return to his relatives 48 years later. |
