Miscellaneous Information
Born 10 August 1904. His father originated from Tyneside and his mother from Ireland. As a youngster John served on the alter at St. Helens Sacred Heart Church on West St., Hoyland. He was also an accomplished pianist. John worked as a Police Constable in Leeds before enlisting. His father George had served as a regular in the Coldstream Guards, seeing service in South Africa 1900, rejoining in 1914 to be discharged the following year. |
John had recently returned from Canada, where he trained as a Pilot. |
