Miscellaneous Information
Byron was born on 15 October 1920 in Ingersoll, Ontario. His father worked as an accountant and was born in Ancaster and his mother was born in Ingersoll. He had two brothers, Max and Howard. He attended schools in Dundas, London and Hamilton. 1927-1933. Memorial Public School, Ingersoll, Ont, 1933-1935 (General); Woodstock Collegiate 1939-1940.(Junior Matric); Ingersoll Collegiate 1932-1937; Westdale Collegiate, Hamilton 1937-1939. The sports he engaged in were baseball, basketball and football and his hobby was music. Byron worked as a Weaver for one year during 1940 -1941 on night work, and as a clerk in a grocery store, A&P Stores, between 1937-1941. |
He enlisted on 16 October 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 21 August 1942. He arrived at 3 PRC on 2 September 1942, 29 OTU 14 October 1942, 1661 CU 23 February 1943 and 467 Squadron on 10 April 1943. Sadly, the following month on 13 May, 1943, Byron lost his life. |
