Reason for Loss | Newcastle Journal April 10th 1942: "IN MEMORIAM. Gowland – In loving memory of a dear husband and father, Robert (Warrant Officer, R.A.F., British Empire Medal), who was drowned on active service, 9th April, 1941, aged 39 years." Furthermore, Sunderland Echo of September 30th 1941 reports: " 'He was drowned in April in trying to rescue a comrade". That comrade is thought to have been 542315 Sgt T R Savin. |
